About Me

Hey, what’s up? I’m Tom and this is my website. I’ve recently graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Computer Science (specializing in software engineering), and am working in Atlanta, Georgia. I married my high school sweetheart on April 5th, 2008. With that said, I guess I should explain the purpose of this site, and what I hope to achieve out of maintaining it; however, it’s probably important to understand where I’m coming from before following me on wherever it is that I’m trying to go (after all, you may not enjoy the trip).

First off, I’ve been interested in computers for the majority of my life and have been tinkering with them since I was about 10 years old. Throughout school, I developed a strong interest in software engineering - everything from architecture and design, to development methodologies, design patterns, and so on. Ever since Web 2.0 became a buzzword (versus an actual versioned release of anything-in-particular), JavaScript suddenly stopped being the red-headed step-child of the internet, and the web began to be seen as a platform, I’ve become increasingly interested in applying software engineering techniques in web application development and I’m fortunate enough to have been able to start a career in doing just that. One thing that I hope to accomplish with this blog is a way to organize and share anything and everything that I learn and believe to be useful that falls under software engineering and/or web development.

The motivation for doing this is largely driven by the fact that I really appreciate well-written, useful ideas that other bloggers provide free of charge on a consistent (or semi-consistent) basis. I firmly believe that all branches of computer science operate on the idea that we are standing on the shoulders of giants. It’s difficult to keep up with all of the new technologies as rapidly as they are released, so there’s something to be said for a really good “how to” that has been shared by someone that has “been there and done that.” Hopefully I’ll have something worthwhile to contribute. If not, at least I’ve got my stuff organized.

Secondly, there’s a lot of stuff out there on the interweb, and I always enjoy seeing the stuff that other people post to share. Assuming I’m not the only one that enjoys doing that, I also hope to use this site to share anything that I come across that I find interesting in one aspect or another.

With that said, I hope you all stick around (unless you aren’t interested)!
Tom
